The African Federation, Inc. (AFI), in collaboration with African Diaspora for Change (ADC), African PAC, the Young Professionals Program of Crystal Star Consulting, and others, invites you to a conference of African-serving organizations in the Metropolitan Washington, DC area.

The conference will focus on the 2010 Census and will take place at the African Union Mission to the United States headquarters in Washington, DC on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The conference is free and lunch will be served. Online registration is strongly encouraged as there is limited seating.

The theme of the conference is: “Immigration Reform and the 2010 Census: The Role of and Impact on African Immigrants,” funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the Four Freedoms Fund (FFF), which aims to share information on immigration reform and the 2010 Census with the African immigrant communities in the United States. The objectives of the conference are:

  • To ensure an accurate census count of African immigrants in the 2010 Census through community education about the importance of the census and redistricting process, the overall timeline, and what the implication are for African immigrant communities in the United States.
  • Ensure that issues facing African immigrants with regards to the Census and immigration reform are addressed, and opportunities for building strategic alliances to address these needs by sharing up-to-date information on immigration reform movement in the United States
  • Develop plans to integrate short and long-term strategies for tracking the impact of the census count and immigration reform and to map a coordinated campaign strategy to create awareness to African immigrants’ unique needs.
